One. UnpackingA20H is a new product of Geshide. It is fully balanced and uses two AK4497EQ decoders. The amp hole also supports balanced output. At the same time, it has a pre-level function and is considered to be a general-purpose machine.
The official pricing for the price is 4580. It should not be discounted right now. I do not know if there will be a discount in the future. This price is a relatively competitive price point, 3-5k is just a friend of entry-level friends for the first time to buy a machine or upgrade from a 1k gear machine, a friend can't go around the grade. I previously reviewed the M9XX, Jieda UDP3, Yang Jing's mini i pro, Mountain Spirit H1.2, the evaluation of A20H, GDX has to be the next evaluation in this price segment, can be described as fierce fighting.
A20's appearance is ordinary, aluminum splicing shell, aluminum plate is relatively thick, work is very solid. There is a cooling hole at the top of the case.
There are four foot pads on the bottom, leaving a cooling hole in the same position as the top plate.
The front of the machine is very simple. The left side is the power switch, then the display and three buttons. The right side is the single-ended and balanced headphone jack. The rightmost is the volume knob. It is worth mentioning that this machine uses a relay to adjust the volume, and the one-in-one machine at this price is the first time to see it, and everyone else is more familiar with Kim Bo's Amber2. The advantages of the relay and the stepper potentiometer are similar, that is, the consistency of the left and right channels is very good, and there is no bias, especially small volume, and the ordinary membrane potentiometer is very easy to be offset at a small volume. At the same time, the volume adjustment of the relay is relatively large, and there will be no embarrassment of adjusting the proper volume, and it is more convenient to do remote control because of the electronic control.
However, this type of potentiometer also has an unattractive place, that is, each twist will be "click". . . Imagine continuously adjusting the volume. The sound of a "machine gun" is really sour. . . Used amber 2 buddies should be deeply touched.
The rear interface is relatively complete. The leftmost side is the analog output of XLR and RCA. In the middle is the digital input, USB, fiber optic, rca coaxial, aes, and I2S input of HDMI. On the far right is the power jack, which can change the voltage on its own.

In general, A20H is a relatively balanced trend, with a preference for low-middle frequencies. The overall density performed well, the sound was tight, and the sound field was at an average level. It was not open but not too constrained. The overall sound is a bit heavy, not the trend of light, high frequency extension, medium frequency is relatively thick, low-frequency is very solid, more suitable for the mellow male and classical large-scale music listening. Single-port performance is generally not too low-resistance to the low-resistance, push the RS2E, 9500 and 235 high frequency slightly rushed, but the balanced performance is remarkable, driving Ether performed well, pushed more open.
In the interface section, although the A20H uses the Xmos-U8 chip, it is generally speaking that it is a short board. Whether it is linked to the U12 or Pearl 2 of our family, we can feel a clear improvement. U12 can use hdmi cable I2S to connect to A20H, cheaper, far better than the coaxial connection, and supports DSD, U12 itself is also very cheap, it is recommended.
In contrast, the H1.2 headphone jack is stronger than the A20H single port, but because the A20H still has a balanced port, the A20H amp section is still significantly stronger than the H1.2, especially when driving Ether, using the balance port, Ether's transparency, transients, and resolution are significantly better. Power A20H has certain advantages, driving KK to normal sound pressure is still a little margin, H1.2 is screwed to the maximum to almost normal sound pressure. In general, the A20H's amp section is still very good. There are basically 2k used 1k6 grade amps, which are obviously better than H1.2.
In terms of sound field, the A20H's balance port is slightly larger than the H1.2's single port, and its depth is better. On the three-frequency trend, the A20H is slightly below the middle, slightly distributed on the pyramid, the high frequency is slightly darker, and the H1.2 distribution is more balanced. The high frequency is brighter and the low-frequency volume is slightly less. The A20H sounds rather calm and heavy, and H1.2 is relatively loose and flexible. H1.2 is better for extensions, and A20H has certain advantages for low frequencies.
Since neither machine has a line in interface, it is not possible to test the amp section separately. Only direct decoding of the two machines can be performed.
Both machines use U12 as the interface, H1.2 uses the coax interface, A20H uses the AES interface, and they are connected to the Longquan 50A. They use the KK and the bookshelf to listen.
After bypassing the amp section, it can be seen that the difference between the two machines in decoding is still quite obvious. The decoding density of H1.2 is actually slightly higher than that of the A20H. The sound field is much larger and the two ends have better extensions. Especially in terms of tuning, the H1.2 sound is relaxed and smart, and the transparency is very good. It is slightly sweet, not an ear poison but very resistant to hearing; A20H's ears are full and full, but the sound is a bit tight and not enough. Loose, feeling a little worse. Personally think that this is the A20H to highlight the density and heavy feeling, the sound field to adjust the relatively small side effects, if the sound field tone to open some, not so much the pursuit of density, music sensor will be better.
After the direct comparison, it was found that the decoded parts of the two machines are indistinguishable, but before the whole machine listened to each other, it seems that the A20H is purely based on the amp to make up for the difference in decoding. The strength of the amp section is evident.
At the same time, A20H also has pre-functions, I use it to connect the Ashley MAP1 rear amplifier, the effect is very good, than before using UDP3, M9xx, and Longquan 50A's pre-level effects are better, personally feel that the use of relays as Potentiometers are indispensable. If you use A20H, you can buy a pair of active speakers such as the real M030, the effect should be very good.
