[PConline News] There has been a lot of recent news about Micron. At the SC17 Supercomputing Conference, Micron demonstrated several advanced SSD solid-state drive products, regardless of capacity or performance. Recently, Micron displayed 9200 series in-kind, model 9200 ECO 11TB version. The 9200 Series is an enterprise-class product that uses Micron's 32-layer stacked 3D TLC flash memory, ranging in capacity from 1.6 to 11TB, and supports PCI-E 3.0 x4/x8 and NVMe.
For different usage scenarios, Micron divided 9200 into three sub-series. The above table shows detailed data of the three sub-series.
The 9200 ECO is targeted at read-intensive scenarios with capacities of 8TB and 11TB, and a total write volume of 11.7-16.1PB.
The 9200 PRO is designed for read-write mixed scenarios with capacities of 1.92TB, 3.84TB, and 7.68TB, and a total write volume of 3.5-14.0PB.
The 9200 MAX targets 1.6TB, 3.2TB, and 6.4TB for write-intensive scenarios, with a total write volume of 8.8-35.1PB.
Because it is for different use scenarios, the sub-systems of the three sub-series can be different. The highest sustained reading and writing is 5.5 GB/s and 3.5 GB/s. Random reading and writing is 900,000 IOPS, 275,000 IOPS.
Recently, Micron finally showed the 9200 series in kind, which is the 9200 ECO 11TB version and U.2 specifications. As such, new listings should not be far behind.
In addition, Micron's 5100 series also added 8TB models, the actual available space is 7.68TB, of which 320GB as redundant space, SATA specifications. Prior to the 5100 Series, the 32-layer stacked TLC was used in the same way as the 9200 series. The master controller was the Marvell 88SS1074. I do not know whether this new product will be extended.
At present, enterprise-class storage uses mechanical hard disks as storage media. Today, large-capacity SSDs are introduced. It is not known how to handle mechanical hard disks. However, the previous 5100 series 3.84TB had a price of 18,000 yuan in Japan’s Akihabara. How 7.68TB can be said to have 30,000, SSD high price is still an important barrier to SSD popularity.
