[High-tech LED News] According to Japanese media reports, Mitsubishi Chemical plans to officially mass-produce gallium nitride (GaN) substrates for white LEDs through its Mizushima Plant in 2013, and plans to introduce GaN substrates in 2015. Revenue increased to above 20 billion yen, challenging 40% of the world's market share.
According to the report, Mitsubishi Chemical has started to introduce large-scale crystal growth equipment in the Mizushima Plant, and will continue to introduce large-scale long crystal equipment into mass production after ensuring a production capacity of 10 million pieces per month (converted by 2 å‹ substrate). After that, it plans to set up dozens of equipment in 2015 to start production of 6-inch substrates.
In order to further popularize LEDs for lighting, Mitsubishi Chemical's evaluation of the appropriate price of GaN substrates should be reduced to the current 1/10, reaching 1,000 yen per square centimeter. Therefore, Mitsubishi Chemical plans to reduce the production cost of GaN substrates to the current 1/10 in 2015.
