Abstract: The heating problem of lithium-ion battery chargers has always been one of the difficulties for electronic engineers in designing lithium-ion battery chargers. If the design is not well-conceived, it will bring safety problems. Here, the technical characteristics of TI's lithium-ion battery charger chip BQ24060 are introduced. The design method and key points of the thermal regulation protection function when designing the lithium-ion battery charger using BQ24060 chip are described in detail, and the typical application circuit is given. Proven and proven, the program achieved its desired goals.

The heating problem of lithium-ion battery chargers has always been one of the difficulties for electronic engineers in designing lithium-ion battery chargers. If the design is not well-conceived, it will bring safety problems. Lithium-ion batteries are widely used in portable devices such as PDAs, MP3s, mobile phones, and digital cameras, both in terms of power and capacity. Because of its ease of use, low cost, and small size, the highly integrated linear battery charger is widely used to charge single-cell lithium-ion batteries. However, if a portable system lithium-ion battery is charged with an adapter that does not have a thermal regulation function, the heat dissipation problem of the linear charger will be highlighted, and it is difficult to ensure that it operates within a safe heat dissipation range. Here is a design method based on TI's lithium-ion battery charger chip BQ24060 and lithium-ion battery charger that supports thermal regulation protection. It not only enables engineers to improve heat dissipation considerations, but also maximizes charge rate, minimizes charging time, and has input overvoltage protection (VOP). Has a strong practicality.

1 BQ24060 chip features
The BQ24060 is a highly integrated lithium-ion battery charge management IC from TI. Its function pins are shown in Figure 1. Table 1 describes the function of each pin. The BQ24060 offers a versatile, safe, fully charged Li-Ion battery charger design with limited integration of 1 A power FETs and current sensors to withstand input voltages up to 26 V. The product also offers comprehensive charge management with unique safety and low dropout characteristics to extend battery life. BQ24060 can make lithium-ion battery charge in three stages: pre-charge mode, constant current thermal regulation charging mode, precise constant voltage charging mode. Charging termination is based on a minimum current. The internal programmable charge timer provides security for charge termination and dynamic regulation in thermal regulation.
