Wang Zhentang revealed that Acer plans to release the first Ultrabook notebook in September, the lowest price of 799 US dollars, and according to Acer's investigation, consumers have very strong interest in Ultrabook.
Wang Zhentang’s remarks have been recognized by many PC makers in the industry, and pointed out that tablet computers are mainly used for entertainment purposes, and are different from notebooks that serve as working and learning tools. Therefore, once the tablet machine market becomes saturated, consumers will update their tablet computers. The power will be much lower than the notebook, causing the tablet's sales to stagnate after reaching a certain level.
In addition to the processor Acer and ASUS in September, Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo, Hewlett-Packard, etc. will all launch Ultrabooks in the first quarter of this year and the first quarter of next year. Taiwan's battery, hinges, shell molds and other parts manufacturers have also started small-scale pilot production, will be put into mass production in the fourth quarter.
Jim Wong, Acer’s president, pointed out that Ultrabook will only account for a very small portion of total notebook shipments in 2011. It will quickly reach 25-35% in 2012, but it will be a lot worse than Intel’s estimated 40%.
As for Windows 8, Wang Zhentang believes that the new system will bring greater contribution to the sales of notebooks, and will allow brand manufacturers to make a big splash during the back to school season in 2012.
