Electronic “extraordinary” transitions help develop new materials

News Australian National University according to network researchers recently published a paper, they detected the transition to electronic than the conventional track.

Under normal circumstances, electrons move around a nucleus in a specific orbit, just as a planet moves around the sun. But new research has found that electrons can instantly transition to higher energy orbits.

The team took a precise snapshot of the electron pairs in the hydrogen molecule. They use an X-ray beam to knock one of the electrons out of the molecule, causing the two atoms to separate. Experiments have shown that a pair of electrons in the ground state orbit instantaneously transition to a higher energy orbit, which is an example of quantum correlation.

The association between electrons is usually weak enough to be observable, but in some cases it can lead to obvious abnormal behavior of electrons, such as superconductivity, which is the basis of high-capacity computer memory. Researchers have clearly observed unusual movements between electrons through highly sensitive experimental techniques, which is a major breakthrough in the research of next-generation electronic devices based on materials such as superconductors.
