Linear Technology CorporaTIon introduces the high-performance 6GHz integer N frequency synthesizer LTC6945, which has excellent -226dBc / Hz normalized closed-loop phase noise in the closed-loop, excellent -274dBc / Hz normalized in-band 1 / f noise, -157dBc / Hz wideband phase noise layer and best-in-class -102dBc spurious output. In a typical 900MHz application, such performance characteristics can achieve -100dBc / Hz closed-loop phase noise at 1kHz offset. The LTC6945 is designed to work with external low-noise VCOs up to 6GHz. In addition, the device has a built-in output divider that can be programmed from 1 to 6 to extend the tuning frequency coverage down to 350MHz.
The LTC6945 includes a low-noise reference buffer, a reference divider, a phase-frequency detector (PFD) with a phase-lock indicator, an ultra-low-noise programmable charge pump, and an integer feedback divider to achieve very low-noise PLL operation . The built-in SPI compatible bidirectional serial port allows frequency tuning and control, and reads back register and loop status information.
