ANADIGICS , a provider of radio frequency (RF) and mixed-signal semiconductor solutions, has introduced a new family of power amplifiers (PAs) that use its third-generation, low-power, high-efficiency (HELP) technology. The new HELP3DC AWT663x family of power amplifiers is optimized for CDMA, WCDMA/HSPA and LTE devices including Switch Mode Power Supply (SMPS), DC/DC converters or envelope tracking ICs to control the operating voltage of the power amplifier. Based on this design, the HELP3DC power amplifier delivers industry-leading average current consumption, helping to extend battery life in mobile phones, smartphones, tablets, netbooks and notebooks.

SMPS and DC/DC converters allow handset designers to reduce the operating voltage of the power amplifier to reduce average current consumption under selected conditions. ANADIGICS' HELP3DC power amplifiers set two power modes for high and low RF power levels for fixed power supplies for greater efficiency. These power amplifiers also provide ultra-low quiescent current. The combination of the HELP3DC series of power amplifiers and external DC/DC converters gives designers more options to reduce battery current consumption in both high and low power modes. The envelope tracking design adjusts the operating voltage of the power amplifier to meet the requirements of the input RF signal.
