According to a joint press release, on the 7th, Cree has signed a global comprehensive patent cross-licensing agreement with Philips to further accelerate the growth of the LED lighting market.
Cree and Philips have a "broad and substantial" optoelectronic patent portfolio. The agreement covers both technologies in different areas, including blue LED chip technology, white LEDs and phosphors, control systems and LED lighting. In addition, the agreement includes LED backlighting for liquid crystal displays and Philips' LED Luminaire Licensing Program patent.
In addition, several other companies, including OSRAM, Austrian Zumtobel and Acuity Brands, have joined Philips' licensing program. (http://)
