According to relevant data, due to the decline in panel prices and the low base of shipments a year ago, global flat-panel TV shipments in the first half of 2018 increased by 7.3% year-on-year to 107 million units.
Market research company Sigmaintell Consulting said that with the exception of Samsung Electronics, shipments of all major manufacturers increased significantly in the first half of the year.
Samsung maintained its No. 1 position in the first half of 2018, with shipments reaching 18.32 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 1.5%. However, as Samsung has been strengthening its deployment on large-size TVs (including 65-inch, 75-inch and 82-inch) models, the company’s panel shipment area actually increased by 5.5% year-on-year.
LG Electronics ranked second with 13.09 million units shipped, an increase of 6.3% year-on-year. Among them, OLED TV-type shipments reached 730,000 units, accounting for 5.5% of the company's total shipments; it is expected that the total shipments of OLED TVs in 2018 will reach 1.7 million units.
TCL ranked third, with shipments increasing 34.1% to 12.65 million units. TCL launched 55-inch and 65-inch TVs in the Chinese and American markets, and shipped 32-inch and 43-inch TVs to Southeast Asia and other emerging markets.
Hisense ranked fifth, with shipments in the first half of the year increasing by 10.1% to 7.01 million units. Sharp ranked seventh with a total shipment of 4.66 million units, an increase of 26 year-on-year.
