Transition from NI CompactDAQ to a stand-alone NI CompactDAQ system
Over the years, Integrated Test & Measurement (ITM) has built high-performance data acquisition and testing for customers in the transportation and automotive industries using NI CompactDAQ systems based on USB and Ethernet, and iTestSystem software written in NI LabVIEW system design software. system. By combining embedded processors on the modular NI CompactDAQ platform, NI offers a new line of hardware that combines portability and flexibility. Because these new NI cDAQ-913x systems can be used with LabVIEW, NI DAQmx drivers, and more than 50 NI C Series modules, we can build new, flexible data logging solutions for our customers in a fraction of the time.
Design flexible exhaust test data logging solution
For this application, we chose the high-performance and reliable NI cDAQ-9139 stand-alone system, as well as seven NI 9234 accelerometer modules and one NI 9229 module, directly connected to the sensors we use in this application. We bundled the NI cDAQ-9139 with a cellular network interface and packaged it into a rugged shipping box. Regarding the sensor, we loaded 28 piezoelectric accelerometers for the exhaust system and connected them to the seven NI 9234 accelerometer modules. We also installed an electromagnetic pickup sensor and connected it to the synchronous differential NI 9229 analog module to determine the speed used in the post-processing order analysis algorithm.
To transition from a USB-based NI CompactDAQ system to a notebook or PC connection, we run the Windows Embedded Standard 7 operating system on the NI cDAQ-9139. We use our iTestSystem software to stream data directly into the NI cDAQ-9139 non-volatile hard drive from TDMS file format from phased events and operations. We use a cellular broadband modem and a Wi-Fi router to connect the NI cDAQ-9139 to a Wi-Fi network for remote control and monitoring of data collection via a remote desktop.
Once the data is collected, all TDMS data files are transferred to the computer for post processing and analysis. We use the iTestSystem software to calculate the overall vibration level of each accelerometer using the order analysis plug-in implemented by LabVIEW's built-in analysis capabilities. In addition, using iTestSystem software and LabVIEW, we can provide our customers with a professional report that includes the overall vibration level and an order analysis chart used to determine which sensor failed to locate or meet design specifications.
