According to South Korea's "Asian Economy" report, Yonsei University in Korea developed a transparent soft pressure sensor with high sensitivity using nanoparticles. The research results were published in the international academic magazine "Small" and were selected as the cover paper of the magazine.
At present, transparent and soft wearable devices have attracted much attention, but due to technical limitations, they have not been commercially available. This technology requires a complex surface treatment process that, while increasing the sensitivity of the touch sensor, results in reduced structural transparency and inability to simultaneously increase sensor sensitivity and transparency. The research team produced the silica nanoparticles with high light transmittance and placed them on the surface of the touch sensor to maximize the sensor's sensing performance with a rough surface. Even through the touch sensor, color changes do not occur, greatly improving transparency. The technology is not only simple in production process, but also can be produced by using various kinds of daily materials such as kitchen wrap film and OHP film, which is very economical and practical.
According to the team, the technology is a pressure sensor with high sensitivity and transparency, and is currently used in blood pressure measurement, health care machines and 3D touch keyboard technology. It will be widely used in user touch interfaces and wearable devices in the future.
