Chunghwa Picture Tube plans to mass-produce QD-LED display in 2 years

Taiwan Chunghwa Picture Tubes (CPT) stated that it is developing quantum dot display (Q-LED) screens that are produced using a printing process. Chunghwa Picture Tubes stated that compared with OLED displays, QLEDs have advantages in terms of solid color, longevity, efficiency, and stability.

Chunghwa Picture Tubes hopes to realize a low-cost QLED display through a printing process. The company's materials technology manager expects that although the performance of QLED materials is still insufficient, major obstacles have been overcome and the company is continuing to develop QD materials. Chunghwa Picture Tubes expects to achieve mass production of QDLED displays within two years.

There are several companies currently actively researching QDLED displays. According to 2016 reports, SDC may begin production of QLED TV panels by 2019. Earlier this year, BOE demonstrated two Q-LED displays, which were 5 inches (320 x 240) and 14 inches (960 x 540).

Chunghwa Picture Tubes has been developing several cutting-edge display technologies. Last week it was reported that it cooperated with imec to develop an ultra-high resolution OLED display using photolithography. In 2015, it demonstrated a flexible OLED prototype based on an OTFT backplane. In August 2016, it was reported that Chunghwa Picture Tubes plans to produce IGZO OLEDs at its 6th-generation factory in mainland China.
