While Amazon was busy building its own Prime Air drone empire, Augmented Reality’s new company, Edgybees, released “Drone Prix,†an AR racing game designed specifically for drones.
In fact, Edgybees has also drawn some talent from Amazon to participate in the development of this project. Among them is Menashe Haskin, former general manager of the Amazon Prime Air Israel office, and one of the co-founders of Edgybees. In addition, Adam Kaplan of the development team and Nitay Megides, deputy director of development, previously worked in the Amazon Data Simulation and Robotics background department.
Although the supervision and restrictions on drones have gradually increased in recent years, this does not stop people’s enthusiasm for it. At the MWC conference held earlier this year, drones became the focus of the show. This year, the expected profit of the entire drone industry can reach 6 billion U.S. dollars, and it is hoped to exceed the 11.2 billion U.S. dollar mark in 2020.
This AR game titled "Drone Prix" can make the environment in front of you a drone venue. It can randomly generate map rewards and obstacles to test the skills of drone controllers. In collaboration with drone-making specialists Dajiang and Epson, the "Drone Prix" was specifically tailored to the DJI drone and used the Epson Moverio BT-300 drone version of smart glasses for manipulation. Through this spectacles, players can use the first person perspective to view the images shot from the drone's built-in camera. Through these images, players can also better control the flight of drones through the Dajiang GO application.
It is worth mentioning that many companies have already tried to launch drone AR racing games before, such as "Drone n Base". This project also raised $70,000 in development funds for Indiegogo.com. Although this project eventually raised only 25,000 U.S. dollars, the project still launched the BETA version in January this year.
Currently, the "Drone Prix" has only one player mode to play, but has scoreboard settings built in it. It contains a total of 30 different difficulty level generation methods. However, given that most still stay in the initial stage of using the self-timer drone, we still cannot confirm whether the game will fire.
