Microsoft has just released a new tool called Spectator View for HoloLens developers so that they can show their applications to the audience.
Whether it is virtual reality, augmented reality or mixed reality, the key to making people understand these technologies is user interaction, so that people try to be easier than to explain. Microsoft had previously developed Mixed Reality Capture (MRC) to help visualize holograms, allowing viewers to see what the HoloLens user is seeing, but the tool can only provide first-person views. Now with the Spectator View tool, the first-person perspective becomes a third-person perspective.
The tool actually includes software and camera systems. HoloLens is mounted on a digital SLR camera. The headphone is then wirelessly connected to the PC with a special 3D-printable stand, and the camera is output via HDMI to the capture card. Next you can open Spectator View for testing.
Microsoft explained in the official blog post: “A camera with an audience perspective will allow your audience to see more than just the picture you see when you wear HoloLens. This can be seen by other people, other non-HoloLens users. The hologram when you wear the device, while also allowing you to see what HoloLens users are doing and how they interact with the mixed reality experience.â€
